Bleeding Hemorrhoids

The sign of blood coming from anywhere in your body is always a cause for concern and definitely something you should attend to as soon as possible so that treatment can begin. In the case of a bleeding hemorrhoid, there are a number of causes and treatments involved as the following article explains in detail. Remedies to cure bleeding hemroids

What is behind the bleeding hemroids?

Bleeding from your anus while you are sitting on the toilet and passing a stool can be a sign that you have an internal hemorrhoid. If you see bleeding at the end of your bowel movement as you wipe or spot it in the toilet bowl, this is indicative of bleeding hemorrhoids.

However, blood does not originate from external hemorrhoids. In this case, it is most likely the result of an anal fissure. Thrombosed bleeding hemorrhoids develop when blood pools in a swollen vein and becomes clotted, or thrombosed, outside of the anus. These types of hemorrhoids are usually accompanied by pain, swelling and itching. They only bleed when there is friction from too much rubbing or a hard stool.

Bleeding hemorrhoids usually can be detected by the color of the blood, which appears as a bright red color. A hemorrhoid is defined as a swollen or strangulated vein. If this vein is stretched while straining on the toilet or if a particularly hard stool scrapes that area, a bleeding hemorrhoid can occur. Excessive bleeding is rare and does not usually result in anemia or a severe hemorrhage. If for some reason you cannot control your bleeding hemorrhoids, please call your doctor immediately.

Are These Bleeding Hemorrhoids or Something Else?

Just because you have blood coming from your anus does not mean you have internal hemorrhoids or an irritated external hemorrhoid. Symptoms of hemorrhoids mirror other more serious conditions. For example, rectal bleeding can be a sign of hemorrhoids, rectum tissue tears or infection, and cancer. Polyps also are very similar to hemorrhoids because they both appear as lumps of tissue that push out from the rectum lining. It may be because of Tears in the lining of the rectum.

Diagnosis and Treatments

Bleeding hemorrhoids definitely require further treatment. If a doctor suspects that you have these, you may have to undergo a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy. Brief, but most likely embarrassing and uncomfortable, the doctor inserts a small device into the rectum to view the intestinal lining and areas where hemorrhoids usually appear.

Treatment can involve sclerotherapy, a treatment that involves injecting a chemical, such as 5% phenol in vegetable oil, into the area. This invasive chemical solution tends to stop the bleeding. More severe surgical treatments, such as a hemorrhoidectomy, are not usually used with this condition.
